Whilst riding dirty with a fat stash of illegally-obtained prescription drugs, it is customary to obey any and all traffic laws—and yes, in de Blasio's New York, that includes yielding to pedestrians. Bronx motorist Jason Henry allegedly learned this important life lesson shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday when cops assigned to a pedestrian safety detail pulled him over after he failed to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk at Morris Park Avenue and White Plains Road. When the uniformed officers approached his van, Henry allegedly sped off, striking a parked car in the process.
According to the NYPD, the officers followed Henry to Morris Park Avenue and Taylor Street, where he plowed his black Chrysler Town and Country up onto the sidewalk. When officers approached the vehicle a second time, Henry allegedly drove straight at them, so they opened fire at the vehicle. Henry sped off a second time, but then crashed into a telephone pole at Wyatt Street and Morris Park Avenue. (The Post has a nice photo of the aftermath.)
The Wild West joyride ends there. Cops took Henry, 39, into custody without further incident. The NYPD says they found 100 oxycodone pills inside his van. Miraculously, there were no injuries as a result of the incident, and Henry is now in a world of shit; here is the list of charges he's been slapped with so far:
- Criminal Possession of Controlled Substances
- Criminal Possession of Narcotics
- Reckless Endangerment
- Criminal Diversion of Prescription Drugs
- Obstructing Governmental Administration
- Criminal Nuisance
- Vehicular Assault
- Resisting Arrest
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury
- Assault
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operator
- Disorderly Conduct
