The NYPD has released a sketch of the man they believe may have committed a hate crime in Hell's Kitchen.

46-year-old Randy Gener was leaving a friend's party around 3 a.m. on January 17th when he was approached by a man near 7th Avenue and East 54th Street. Police say the man punched Gener in the face and fled the scene in a grey, four-door Nissan with Mississippi license plate number KAT397.

Gener, an accomplished journalist and lecturer, struck his head on the ground, and his injuries required brain surgery. His family is currently collecting donations to cover his medical expenses.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, 160 lbs, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and black jeans. Anyone with any information can contact Crime Stoppers through their website, by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or by texting a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

The Anti-Violence Project is sponsoring a Community Safety Night in Hell's Kitchen this Friday—more information here.
