Two pedestrians were killed by drivers in two separate collisions in Queens yesterday, and one of the drivers was arrested at the scene.
Police said that 68-year-old Angela Hurtado was crossing Grand Avenue near 69th Place in Maspeth at around 11:20 a.m. when she was struck by an SUV driven by 28-year-old Abel Tinoco as he made a left turn onto Grand from 69th Place. Witnesses told the Post that Tinoco made the turn despite a No Left Turn sign at the intersection.
Tinoco, a Queens resident, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
Shortly before 7 a.m. in Glen Oaks, an unidentified man was struck and killed by a 2011 Ford Expedition on Union Turnpike near the Cross Island Expressway. The driver the SUV, a 69-year-old man, remained at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
