We've had a particularly mild fall, with only one light dusting last month, so we're about due for some snow in the city. The tri-state area is expected for get a mix of snow, rain and ice over the next 24 hours—the city could get anywhere from 1 to 3 inches, depending on which weatherhuman you listen to. It may not be enough to warrant a comfort sweater press conference, but you could take this opportunity to take inspiration from Mariah Carey and celebrate pre-Christmas.
Weather.com says this is expected to be "the season's first measurable snow;" they say snow should start in the city around 6 p.m. and continue through early Monday morning, leading to a very rainy first day of the week. CBS predicts snow will start a bit earlier, around 3 p.m. in the city, and will transition into freezing rain around midnight.
The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert; they have loaded 365 salt spreaders and attached plows and tire chains in anticipation of slick roads. As ever, send your pretty snow pictures to [email protected], or tag them as 'Gothamist' on Flickr.
