Yesterday, it was reported that the NJ waitress who claimed to have been stiffed out of a tip because she was gay has a history of lying. Now her military service is being scrutinized.
Dayna Morales won the support of many when she said a family left her no tip and an offensive message on the receipt, "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life." However the family countered with their copy of the receipt showing a nearly 20% tip as well as a credit card statement.
Then the Journal News spoke to old friends and ex-colleagues of Morales, who said that she (a) lied a boat hitting her house during Hurricane Sandy; (b) lied about having cancer; and (c) lied about injuring herself while serving in Afghanistan. A spokesman for the Marines confirmed she did serve, but she was never in Afghanistan and that she didn't fulfill her service.
Now NBC New York reports that it "learned Wednesday from a Pentagon source that Morales was dismissed from the Marine Reserve Corps in May because she wasn't attending drills. It wasn't immediately clear how often those drills were held, and Morales did not respond to a request for comment."
A woman who served with Morales told NBC New York, "I wouldn't want anyone to think she was a part of my Marine Corps family, because she's not."
Morales' receipt and tale went viral after she submitted it to Have A Gay Day, which then posted it on Facebook with her note which included, "I am THOROUGHLY offended mad pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free."
