Four people were killed by drivers over the span of 30 minutes last night, including two pedestrians on Staten Island, one on the Lower East Side and a cyclist in Queens.
Pedro Lopez, 54, was riding his bicycle across Borden Avenue near Maurice Avenue around 4:54 p.m. when he was hit by a white commercial truck, whose driver was attempting to make a righthand turn onto Borden. The driver of the truck fled the scene, and is currently wanted by police. Lopez was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.
On Staten Island, 47-year-old Marion Anderson and 59-year-old Lizette Sorrano were crossing Forest Hill Road just before 5:30 p.m. when they were struck by the driver of a 2013 Honda Odyssey, police said. The women were taken to Staten Island University North Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The driver remained on the scene, and the crash is under investigation.
And on the Lower East Side, the driver of a Con Ed truck hit and killed an 88-year-old woman at 16th Street and Avenue C around 5:15 p.m. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center and pronounced dead. Two Con Ed employees were also hospitalized with injuries, according to the Post.
