A drought, a cold snap and a nor'easter walk into a weather forecast... There is a wealth of weather to talk about today, so let's go in chronological order. The pitiful amount of rain falling today will do virtually nothing to end our dry spell. Officially, the city and surrounding areas are in a moderate drought. That's the lowest level of drought, but there's no significant rain expected in the next few days so our precipitation deficit is only going to grow. It's going to warm to the mid 50s this afternoon before the first in a series of cold fronts reminds us that winter is coming.

As the front passes tonight we'll have some gusty winds but tomorrow's weather should be nice enough to wear a bow tie and fez. Look for a sunny high in the mid 40s. Saturday night's cold front is going to be brutal. There might be some rain or snow, but Sunday's high will struggle to get above freezing. Add in a northwest wind howling at 20-25 mph and Sunday will be downright unpleasant. Expect a slight warming trend on Monday and Tuesday as a weak high pressure system moves eastward.

That leads us into Wednesday and the possibility of a nor'easter on the busiest travel day of the year. The forecast models have a classic storm setting up with an upper level shortwave scooting across the southeastern states then up the East Coast. The storm looks to hit us sometime next Wednesday with rain near the coast and snow inland and at higher elevations.

The forecast details are still uncertain this far out so don't start panicking... just yet! Thanksgiving Day is looking cold behind the storm.
