This Saturday, November 16th, the public will get to enjoy a beloved New York Botanical Garden tradition: The 22nd annual "Holiday Train Show," which features model trains and trolleys running through NYC landmarks—recreated with bark, twigs and much more—in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

Among the buildings recreated in miniature are Yankee Stadium, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Radio City Music Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge, the main branch of the New York Public Library, the Guggenheim, City Hall, Rockefeller Center and the original Pennsylvania Station (RIP). Besides bark, twigs and sticks, the designers used fruits, seeds and pine cones! Then there are the trains—over 20 model trains and trolleys ("from American steam engines and streetcars from the late 1800s to modern freight and high-speed passenger trains"—plus a Thomas the Tank Engine and a little lady bug train) travel a quarter-mile of track inside the conservatory. The trains cross bridges, trestles and go through tunnels. Check out some videos:

There are a number of related programs at the NYBG, from a holiday tree lightning this Saturday to a poetry reading on November 23 by former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins—plus Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends shows for the kids and Bar Car Nights for grown-ups.

The NYBG Holiday Train Show runs between November 16 and January 12. The NYBG says, "Reservations are strongly recommended as tickets do sell out. Tickets are timed and sold in 15 minute increments." Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors/students, and $15 for children 2-12.
