Did you know Bed-Stuy is the New Williamsburg? Wasn't Bushwick the New Williamsburg? Is East Williamsburg the New Bushwick, or is Ridgewick the new Lower East Bed-Burg? Parkwanus is the New Puggle, we know that. We used to have a Labradoodle, too, but ProCro got drunk one night and hit it with its car, so that was the end of that.
"Bed-Stuy Eyed As The Next Williamsburg," proclaims a headline today in Crain's, heralding brokerage firm Aptsandlofts.com's decision to lease a 2,000-square-foot space on Malcolm X Boulevard as the definitive sign of the neighborhood's forthcoming Gentrification Renaissance. (As an aside, does this mean we can finally start having Gen Ren Faires?)
"I'm seeing in Bed-Stuy what I saw happen in Williamsburg in 2002," David Maundrell, firm president and freelance Magic 8-Ball Whisperer told the website. "We've been working out there for a very long time."
Aptsandlofts.com is thus far the only big name of its kind to put down physical roots in New Williamsburg II—puny mom-and-pop outfits be damned. The arrival of the Aptsandlofts.com juggernaut will crush them in no time, just like the Whole Foods will crush the corner bodegas and the WASPS will buy longtime residents out of their multi-family units to create giant brownstone castles where every room has a fireplace and artisanal marshmallow skewers.
Furthermore, "the growth will allow the firm to focus on a large collection of new condominium units, as commercial and retail spaces, that will soon be hitting the market in Bed Stuy and the surrounding neighborhoods of Crown Heights, Clinton Hill and Bushwick." Looks like the Singer's are going to have to move again.
