There's a structure inside Brookfield Place that looks uncannily like the Staten Island Ferry—it's time once again for Canstruction! I'm here all week, folks. The annual design competition and charity event returns to the Financial District, with 26 whimsical designs made (mostly) from unopened canned food products.

Now in its 21st year, Canstruction tasks architecture, engineering and design firms with creating giant sculptures out of cans. Some groups drew inspiration from the city, creating a Staten Island Ferry out of Goya products and replicas of the NYPL lions Patience and Fortitude; others turned to pop culture, like the giant AT-AT from Star Wars, some Minions and, yes, even Sharknado.

The canned art will remain on display inside the Winter Garden and 200 Vesey Street lobby of Brookfield Place until November 13th, after which the construction materials will be donated to City Harvest. Check out the collection online or swing by to see the cool food sculptures in person. Entrance to the display is free but visitors are encouraged to bring a high quality, non-perishable food item for donation to City Harvest.
