After suffering a cruel cancellation at the hands of Hurricane Sandy last fall, the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade was dealt another blow this year when it looked like there wasn't enough cash to keep it going. Thankfully, the People of New York (or at least 837 of them) have pulled together and the the parade's $50K Kickstarter campaign has met its goal. WE SAVED HALLOWEEN, AMERICA!

The campaign passed its funding threshold earlier today, and Jeanne Fleming, the parade's artistic and producing director, told us organizers were blown away by all the support. "Our Kickstarter was a gathering of the tribe," she said. "The Halloween parade is all about looking out for everybody, and the people who gave were the ones who said, 'I'm going to step forward and help everybody."

Though the fund was at a hefty $50,408 as of this afternoon, Fleming says parade organizers could still use more financial support. "The Kickstarter campaign takes 10 percent, and we have to fill all those tote bags and t-shirts," she said, estimating they've only netted about $35,000.

The campaign closes for good on Monday, so you still have time to help out a time-honored New York tradition, and if rescuing Halloween for the rest of us isn't reward enough, organizers are offering cool prizes like Dia de los Muertos masks, tote bags, posters and VIP entry to the parade's after-party at Webster Hall. The parade kicks off in SoHo at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 31st; throw on a terrifyingly intricate costume and line up at 6th Avenue between Spring St. and Broome St at 6:30 p.m. if you want to march.
