Two cars collided at the Manhattan base of the Williamsburg Bridge at around 1:23 p.m. today, causing one to overturn in the crosswalk. According to an NYPD spokesman, two men were transported to New York Downtown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The police spokesman had few details on the crash, noting that the incident was not investigated by the department's Collision Investigation Squad. He was also unsure of whether any summonses were issued or arrests were made in the incident. Traffic on the bridge was halted while rescuers removed one of the passengers from the overturned vehicle, which sat on Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge's mouth.

Delancey Street has consistently been one of the most dangerous roads for pedestrians in New York City. The spot of today's crash is where 12-year-old Dashane Santana was struck and killed by a minivan in January of 2012. In response, the DOT widened the pedestrian island on the north side of the street, added pedestrian plazas on both sides, and increased the signal timing along the thoroughfare.
