The city today announced the launch of several more Wi-Fi hotspots scattered throughout the boroughs (by which we mean Manhattan and Brooklyn, mostly.)

Like most decisions made under Bloomberg's tenure, the new hotspots were created with the idea that New York City should crush all the other cities continue to bolster its credibility as an economic powerhouse.

“If New York City is going remain competitive in the global economy, we must find ways to support the entrepreneurs who are driving technological advances and creating jobs,” the mayor said in a statement. “With these new initiatives, we are making targeted investments to improve our city’s wireless infrastructure and expand Internet access."

The new hotspots will be located in the following areas:

Brooklyn:

Fulton Street corridor

BAM Cultural District

Brownsville

Downtown Brooklyn

Manhattan:

Flatiron Districton

Along the Water Street Corridor

East River waterfront

125th Street corridor in Harlem

Roosevelt Island

Queens:

Long Island City

Staten Island:

St. George commercial district

Bronx:

Fordham Road

The city also launched a rating platform called WiredNYC, which "evaluates the broadband connectivity and infrastructure of office buildings" in order to give businesses more information about a building’s connectivity, and "allow landlords to better market a building’s assets."
