Who cares if it costs $13 million to mount a runoff election for a position whose budget is only $2.3 million? The primary election results for the public advocate race mandate the runoff, since neither City Council Member Letitia James nor State Senator Daniel Squadron got 40% of the vote (James got 36% and Squadron had 33%). And so the pair will be debating on Tuesday night.
You can submit questions here on this Google Doc—your question might be selected for use during the runoff debate on Tuesday, September 24. Gothamist and our partners, NY1 News, NY1 Noticias, WNYC, Citizens Committee for New York City, Citizens Union, Hispanic Federation, and Transportation Alternatives are sponsoring this Campaign Finance Board debate, which will air at 7 p.m. on NY1 and you can stream it online on Gothamist.
You can see where the candidates, both Brooklyn Democrats, overlap and differ by checking out our guide to the Public Advocate's race. And here's our writeup of their August 15 debate. Be an informed voter on October 1st—remember, the Public Advocate is first in the line of succession, after the mayor.
