The funeral for one-year-old Antiq Hennis, who was fatally shot while riding in his stroller in Brownsville last weekend, was held yesterday, just hours after two men were taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the shooting. And reports say the shooter, believing he'd hit the baby's father, bragged about the shooting: "I just shot that motherf—er!"
Cops say neither man has been charged yet, but they believe Daquan Breland, 23, was the shooter responsible for delivering Hennis' fatal bullet; 19-year-old Daquan Wright is accused of handing the gun over to Breland. Both Breland and Wright were taken into custody in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., after the NYPD tracked them down to a residential development in the area. Authorities say Breland was aiming for Antiq's father, 21-year-old Anthony Hennis, who is believed to be a gang member and has a lengthy rap sheet.
Hennis was pushing Antiq in his stroller in Brownsville around 7 p.m. Sunday, when Wright and Breland allegedly approached him and started shooting. And sources say Breland, who has a neck tattoo reading "Family Comes 1st," was proud of shooting his intended target, until he discovered the bullet had hit baby Antiq. "He started to cry. He was very upset and worried," a source told the Post.
DNAinfo reports the shooting may have been in retaliation for a 2012 shooting that wounded Wright's 23-year-old brother; meanwhile, mourners at Antiq's funeral yesterday had only harsh words for the two men. "They're not men, they're little boys," mourner Yvette Telfair-Clay told NBC News. "Men don't shoot babies. May they rot in hell. It's not right." 16-month-old Antiq was buried in a white suit and a white Yankees hat.
