It has been a terrible weekend for pedestrians, with several crashes having occurred in three boroughs over the past 24 hours. Of the five confirmed incidents, three were fatal.

A woman was pronounced dead after getting hit by a car in Jamaica, Queens early Saturday morning. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Latrisha Been, was reportedly hit out front of 87-07 Van Wyck Expressway around 4:49 a.m. by a northbound-traveling truck. The driver, who fled the scene, was identified as 34-year-old Carl Alvear. He has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter.

Around 11:10 p.m. the same day, a man was attempting to cross Nostrand Avenue near Avenue W when he was struck by a Chrysler heading northbound on Nostrand. The victim, identified by police as 44-year-old Jose Santiago, was taken to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver remained on the scene, and an investigation is ongoing.

In Brooklyn, a woman was struck at 4th Avenue and 17th Street around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday. The woman's injuries are unknown, and the driver remained at the scene.

Also in Brooklyn, another pedestrian was hit at Rogers Avenue and Avenue D on Sunday around 2:46 a.m. The victim, a 30-year-old male, suffered two broken legs. The driver remained on the scene and does not currently face any charges, police said.

A woman was struck and killed in Midtown early this morning by Chevy Camaro traveling eastbound on West 32nd Street near 5th Avenue. According to police, the victim, 49, was hit around 5:41 a.m. after possibly falling into the street into the car's path. She was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

While accidents can certainly occur anywhere, some areas are more crash-prone than others. Take a look at this heat map, and always be careful when crossing the street.
