It's unlikely the NYPD will charge the officer who struck and killed Felix Coss with a police van as he walked through a crosswalk in Williamsburg on Saturday afternoon. An NYPD spokesman said this morning that while the investigation has not yet been finalized, there is no criminality suspected.
Coss was walking north with the signal across Broadway at Hooper Street when the marked van, traveling south on Hooper, made a left turn onto Broadway and failed to yield to Coss, killing him. The police spokesman said the name of the officer would not be released. The Post calls her "a veteran female officer." The officer was not responding to an emergency when the incident occurred.
Coss, 61, was a Spanish teacher at the Beginning With Children Charter School in south Williamsburg, and one friend described him to NBC as cautious: "He wouldn't cross without his light. I'm sure of that."
A former student said, "He was very soulful individual. He loved his students and his students loved him and he's going to be greatly missed."
