This morning's satellite image pretty much says all you need to know about the weather for the next couple of days. Surface high pressure over the western Atlantic will push hot and humid air up the East Coast through at least Sunday. That will bring us highs in the lower 90s and dew points in the lower 70s today through Sunday. Hence a heat advisory is in effect for the entire weekend. Take it easy out there or head to the coastline, where it will be slightly cooler. Today will be the 15th straight day that the temperature will be at or above normal and the 13th day in a row that the low hasn't dipped below 70 degrees. Those two streaks will continue well into next week.
Sunday's forecast gets a bit tricky. An upper-level trough, which usually destabilizes the atmosphere, will try to ride over the top of the stable surface high. It's not yet clear which system will win that battle, but Sunday is likely to be cloudy and we could see some showers or perhaps a thunderstorm. Let's hope it doesn't drop a foot of hail.
The passage of the trough late Sunday is leading to diverging forecasts for early next week. The Weather Channel thinks highs will dip to the mid 80s on Monday and stay that way for the entire week. The Weather Service keeps the highs in the upper 80s all week long. Both agree that we'll be back to a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day.
