It's time once again for the 8th Annual Taste of LIC, a feasting and beverage celebration to benefit The Chocolate Factory Theater's upcoming season of dance, theater, music and multimedia performances. From its humble beginnings with 12 vendors huddled inside the theater, the Taste has grown to include samples from 50 Queens restaurants, making it the largest event of its kind of Western Queens. In addition to the tasty treats, auction and raffles prizes from Queens-based businesses can be won; enjoy performances by rapper Champagne Jerry and performance art by Neal Medlyn; plus hear toasts from Speaker Christine Quinn and Queens Beep Helen Marshall.
Offering morsels and sips this year are upscale pub grub purveyors Alewife; throwback specialists The Astor Room; trendy M. Wells Dinette; and traditional red sauce joint Testaccio Ristorante, among many, many others. Brooklyn Brewery, Vernon Wine and Liquor, Atlantic Wine & Spirits and others will make sure you don't get parched.
The soiree on June 4th takes over lovely Gantry Plaza State Park—home to the landmark Long Island City sign—which sits right on the water with stellar views into the city. A basic ticket to the two-hour feeding frenzy from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. runs $50, but other "donation" levels from $150 up to $500 gain you access an hour early to a "Patron Hour," plus a jump start on all the eating.
