It has been nearly two years since artist Mathieu Lefevre was killed by a flatbed truck driver while riding his bike through a desolate stretch of road in Williamsburg. Now, a solo exhibit of his work, called The Stuff Things Are Made Of, will be shown at Regina Rex starting on May 18.

An opening reception will be held at the gallery, located at 17-17 Troutman, #329  from 7 to 10 p.m., while the show itself will run through June 16. From the gallery's press release:

Lefevre’s work has tirelessly engaged in the idea and materiality of ‘bad’ art, often pairing the underpinnings of language art and tautological revelations, with slap-stick execution. Taking the tropes and trends of contemporary art, such as poetic failures and clever ready-mades, Lefevre locates their ultimate end-game within a visual ‘punch-line’.

Lefevre's 2011 death has been the subject of much media attention after his family filed a lawsuit against the NYPD for refusing to provide even basic information about the hit-and-run accident, from which the driver walked away without criminal charges.
