A man wanted for stealing three cars at gunpoint in Long Island City yesterday morning was arrested last night in Greenpoint.

Nicolas Almonte, 27, who was described by a coworker as "normal—as long as he's on his meds," was apprehended by cops around 5:30 p.m. His charges include five counts of robbery with a firearm, three counts of robbery of a motor vehicle, attempted armed robbery, attempted robbery of a motor vehicle and unlawful imprisonment (which occurred when he allegedly took off with a woman's Mercedes—while she was still in the car).

After an hours-long manhunt, police found Almonte in front of an Apollo Street building after someone called to report a "suspicious man," NBC New York reports.

Witnesses said that prior to the arrival of police, Almonte seemed disoriented. “I was like ‘I can’t help you, I’m gonna call the police,’ one woman told CBS 2. He said, ‘God sent me to you.’”

“He kept saying, ‘I need bread. I need bread.’”
