If yesterday's "Poem in my Pocket" debacle taught us anything, it's that Bloomberg has not exactly mastered the art of linguistic nuance, a fact made even more evident by his reaction to Senate's failure to pass gun background check legislation.

"Children lost. They’re going to die. And criminals won,” he matter-of-factly declared during a press conference yesterday. His bitterness is understandable—Bloomberg has poured millions of his own dollars into the group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," which last month created ads targeted at certain states—including a special Newtown version just for Connecticut— whose senators he thought capable of swaying. Apparently, though, those senators weren't quite as impressionable as Bloomberg had hoped. "A mayor from New York advocating (gun control) in Alaska is probably not going to help' the cause of restricting firearms," Alaska's Mark Begich told the Daily News.

Helpful or not, it doesn't change the fact that Bloomberg is pissed, and he's not shy about letting people know it. “It’s so inconceivable to me that some of these senators voted the way they did,” he said. “How can you look your constituents in the eye when you go home? You’re either in favor of continuing the killing and the tragedies or you’re not.”
