We learned last year that there's a hefty price to pay for the luxury of repairing to the Hamptons for the summer: Unless your pool deck is big enough to accommodate your private jet, most people, even linen-pant-wearing, tennis bracelet-owning Hamptons people, are forced to suffer the indignity of the drunken cattle car that is the LIRR, a reportedly nightmarish experience defined by toddlers hurling iPads and grown men in visors cradling blenders.

The MTA announced today that the hell ride will be just a liiiitle shorter, since for the first time in history, service will run non-stop between Penn Station and Westhampton, meaning you and your several bottles of white wine will only have to endure the wheezing Bacchanalia for a total of 94 minutes before you're free to gambol in the waves of your private beach and never gaze at a commoner ever again, or at least until September. (Previously, passengers were required to travel to Long Island City for their Cannonball service, or, if they left from Penn Station, transfer midway to complete the journey to the Hamptons.) The agency said it will make an official announcement tomorrow at the Penn Station LIRR Concourse, though the information is already posted on their website.
