Now we understand what's taken so long. It turns out the new Smith-9th Street station, which has been under construction since May of 2011, is from the future.
With neon lights and sleek steel aplenty, the new station appears to be spawned from the same alien life form/picnic basket that gave birth to the Barclays Center. An MTA spokesman confirmed that the new station will be open sometime next week, though he declined to specify a day. In addition to the pretty lights, straphangers will also be treated to "a new architectural metal panel escalator enclosure and rehabilitated stairs and platforms," as well as state-of-the-art public address and CCTV systems, and a 14-foot-tall mosaic.
