Word to the wise, plane travelers: uttering the word "bomb" in an airport WILL get you in trouble, even if that bomb you're referring to is just a sweet, deli-meat filled sub. One passenger learned that the hard way, when he was detained at JFK this week after a TSA agent overheard him talk about a sandwich with a particularly, ah, explosive name.
Jason Michael Cruz, 29, was supposed to be onboard a flight to Los Angeles on Thursday, but a TSA agent heard him tell a friend that he "had the wrong kind of bomb," and reported him to a supervisor. Cruz and his buddy were detained, but it turns out the only thing in danger of detonating was Cruz's stomach from hunger, because he was apparently just talking about a sandwich named The Bomb.
He was released, but unfortunately all the sub hullabaloo meant Cruz didn't make his flight. And though one can never be sure what spectacular sammie ostensibly kept him from missing out on all this going on in California, one key suspect stands out: The Bomb, a 12-inch Goliath from Sal, Kris and Charlie's Deli in Astoria that's so jam-packed with meat and cheeses that it probably should be labeled a flight hazard, at least for the passengers stuck sitting next to you and your bowels for five hours.
