At least four pedestrians were injured when a car jumped the curb in South Bronx shortly before 1 p.m. this afternoon. Police say that an 85-year-old man lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of East 149th Street and Bergen Avenue, jumping the curb and striking a group of pedestrians. An FDNY spokesman said that EMS transported four victims to Lincoln Hospital, at least one of whom suffered serious injuries. An NYPD spokesman indicated that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, and that there was no criminality suspected at this time.
The FDNY spokesman said that they received reports that a fifth pedestrian was struck, but left the scene before EMS arrived. No additional details about the victims, the driver, or which direction the vehicle was traveling were immediately available.
Last week, nine pedestrians were injured, including 3-year-old Denim McLean, when a car careened into a bus stop in East Flatbush. Doctors believe that McLean will likely not regain consciousness.
