When it comes to his successor, Bloomberg is convinced that no one will ever fill Bloomberg's shoes as well as Bloomberg himself. The billionaire long favored Christine Quinn for the position of New Bloomberg, that is until last week when she did something particularly un-Bloombergian and announced that she supported the idea of installing an NYPD Inspector General, a proposal that Bloomberg hates with a zeal he normally reserves for salt and smiling.

And now, when he gazes deep into the eyes of the mayoral frontrunners, Bloomberg realizes that he doesn't see himself (Bloomberg) in any of them, an epiphany he referred to this week as "really depressing."

Bloomberg's depression only deepened on Thursday. The Times reported that, after offering praise for a newly appointed police chief, Bloomberg said he wished he "had the same confidence in what I read about in the papers from the candidates for mayor," a somewhat jumbled statement that, translated from Bloombergish, means: "The moment I step out of office, this city is fucked."
