You really can make just about any animal into a burger. First it was antelope (and ostrich and bison and elk ) sold on a bun with a side of fries at Williamsburg's "Burger Guru," and now it seems chefs have turned their cutlery on kangaroos. Is nothing sacred?

DNAinfo reported today that Astoria eatery "The Thirsty Koala" last month started serving kangaroo burgers, sliders and even steaks. Co-owner Katherine Fuchs tells the news site that "novelty meats" are so hot right now, and there's really just no reason that beloved marsupials (Fun fact: Did you know kangaroos appear on Australia's dollar coin?) shouldn't be mashed into patties as well.

"There's a lot of other meat out there," Fuchs said. "People are eating elk, they’re eating emu, they’re eating ostrich. So why not kangaroo?"

You make a good point, Fuchs. You may, however, want to reconsider that photo of the trio of kangaroos—noble, majestic, live kangaroos— bounding blithely into the sunset on the Thirsty Koala homepage. It's unappetizing.
