There's probably no point in whining about gentrification anymore, but for this we'll make an exception: it appears there are now $8,500-a-month rental apartments on the market in Gowanus. Meanwhile, rents in Bushwick have skyrocketed to $3,000 for a two-bedroom, so it's only a matter of time until Anthropologie starts selling patterned sofas out of an abandoned warehouse in the 'hood.
A new luxury building in Gowanus—yes, this Gowanus—is opening up at 202 Eighth Street, and they're offering rentals that include studios for $2,475-a-month, two-bedrooms for $3,999-a-month and a $8,500-a-month 3-bedroom that has a terrace and two bathrooms... but is still in Gowanus.
Meanwhile, yesterday it was reported that Bushwick has seen an "abnormal" spike in rents, with prices for a two-bedroom apartment increasing 22.75 percent, and for a one-bedroom, 21.43 percent. Average rents for studios rose to $2,400-a-month, up from about $1800. And if that seems like a silly exaggeration, my landlord just raised my rent $300 a month, so if you're looking to spend $900 a month to share a (very thin) wall with a bunch of budding rap/electronica musicians whose preferred practice time is 2 a.m., hit me up, please.
