According to the Census [PDF] New York City is home to the most "long commuters" in the country—which we guess helps explain this poor kid's 2 hour and 20 minute daily ride to school. The sad thing is lots of New Yorkers have very long commutes. How long? There's a map for that!

The fine folks at WNYC went and mapped the latest census data on average commute times and its, well, about what you'd expect. Folks who live in lower Manhattan have blissfully short jaunts to their jobs while folks living in places like the South Shore of Staten Island and the Rockaways? Not so much:

What other fun things are there to learn from this latest data set? Well, more workers commute from New Jersey to New York than travel between any other state (nearly 400,000!), 16.2 percent of New York State residents say they commute more than an hour to and from work. Also?

In Manhattan, twice as many workers commute from another county (1.6 million) as live there (830,000). Among Manhattan residents, 130,000 travel to work in another county, more than half of them to the Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens.

Among residents of Brooklyn, 391,000 commute to Manhattan; 370,000 in Queens and 191,000 in the Bronx make the commute. About 53,000 commute from Staten Island.

We will now stop complaining about having to take three trains to work (if we don't want to leave Brooklyn) since it only takes us about 25 minutes.
