Brrr, that was a brisk walk across town this morning, reminding us that winter is not quite over. Low pressure over the Canadian Maritimes decided to back up a bit at the same time surface high pressure approached our region from the west. The resulting steep pressure gradient means the city will see a strong northwesterly breeze through tomorrow morning. The wind will keep today's high to the lower 40s under a mix of sun and clouds. As the winds diminish we should be able to warm to the mid 40s on Tuesday.

The midweek forecast is turning out to be... interesting. It seems pretty clear that a storm is going to drop down from the Upper Midwest and across the Appalachians before moving offshore and becoming a coastal storm. The forecast models, however, aren't in good agreement as to the exact path. Our gut, and we have a substantial gut, tells us the storm is going to move far enough south to spare the city a direct hit. There might be some non-accumulating snow late Tuesday night changing to rain during the day on Wednesday before changing back to snow as cooler air arrives Wednesday night. The Weather Channel thinks the precipitation may last into Thursday but that seems wrong to us. We're much more confident that the wind will howl on Wednesday and Thursday.

Cool air will arrive on the heels of the storm. Thursday's high will only be about 40 degrees. A warm up should follow as the dry air mass behind the storm moves eastward. Friday looks like it will warm to the mid 40s and daily highs over the weekend should be in the upper 40s to near 50.
