Oh, condo owners and your cruel hatred of fun: residents of a luxury condominium complex on the Bowery say dance clubs in their building are too loud, and they're trying to get their liquor licenses revoked.
The building, 199 Bowery, houses two nightlife hotspots run by the EMM Group on its ground floor and in the basement: Finale, a dance club that reportedly boats the loudest speakers in town, and jazz club Bow. Of course, the Bowery isn't exactly known for its quiet nightlife, but residents say they were promised the only EMM Group venues they'd get would be an Asian restaurant, a bakery and a basement club playing smooth jazz. Alas, Finale's and Bow's heavy-duty sound system and pounding bass lines have since been installed, and neighbors are going to court.
They've asked a Manhattan judge to overturn the EMM Group's liquor license; on top of that, they argue that the SLA illegally licensed the venues, since according to court documents there are only supposed to be three venues with liquor licenses within 500 feet of the building (at their count, there are currently 28). Meanwhile, the president of the condo board says the music's four times the city law limit, lines for entry stretch around the block well into the night, people can't live in some of the condos because of the noise, blah blah but seriously, DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU LIVE ON THE BOWERY?
