An appeals court denied bail for accused "Cannibal Cop" Gilberto Valle today, despite defense claims that the 28-year-old NYPD officer who allegedly planned to kidnap and cook women was simply trying to indulge in his internet fantasies.
Valle, who was arrested in October after cops found evidence that he and a co-conspirator were "discussing plans to kidnap, rape, torture, kill, cook and eat body parts of a number of women,” has been denied bail three times previously, the third after prosecutors revealed his alleged plan to "cook girl meat" for Thanksgiving. Defense attorney Edward Zas has argued that Valle was just using the internet to vent his sexual fetishes, but the three judges on the federal appeals panel assigned to the case agreed with prosecutor Hadassa Waxman that Valle's actions were "depraved, disgusting, troubling and gruesome."
Waxman also accused Valle of telling an online fantasy forum that he wanted to slow-cook and eat a former female college friend during a lunch date in Baltimore last summer, allegedly saying, "My mouth was watering the whole time." Valle is set to go to trial next week, but his attorney plans to ask the court to delay for another month; either way it looks like he's not getting let out of jail anytime soon, so you can probably celebrate OkCupid's National Blind Date Day without fear of getting turned into lunch meat.
