Yesterday, two people were shot in a park in Brooklyn in the middle of the afternoon. According to police, 38-year-old Lorenzo Simon and his 2-year-old son Kuadir Simon were both shot in front of the Von King Cultural Arts Center in Herbert Von King Park around 2 p.m. Suspect Jamal Ali, 19, was arrested soon after in his home on Lafayette Avenue by cops, and has been charged in the shooting.

Simon told cops that two men approached him and his son as they were spending time in the park Thursday. Witnesses heard the suspects say, "That's him," said Paul Browne, the NYPD's chief spokesman. Simon was hit in the hand, and Kuadir was hit in both arms. Both were taken to Kings County Hospital, where they are in stable condition. Kudafir's mother, Pretty Isaac, visited her son in the hospital Thursday evening. "I told him I love him," she told DNAInfo. "His eyes opened when he heard my voice."

Ali has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felony assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Police are still looking for another male suspect who has not been identified yet. They also say that it hasn't been determined whether Simon was their intended target, although one of Ali's neighbors told us they believed he was. That neighbor added that Ali lives in a house "that obviously grows and sells weed."
