A New Year's Eve party at a controversial Bay Ridge nightclub devolved into a drunk driving rampage on a formerly quiet residential street yesterday morning. Neighbors of 93 Lounge on East 93rd Street say that a drunken brawl inside the club spilled out into the street around 3:30 a.m. According to police, one of the people involved was Charles Amado, a 34-year-old Staten Island man who took the fight to another level by getting behind the wheel of his 2012 Acura and throwing it into reverse, injuring four people.
"It was really bad," witness Deoneicia Davis tells Fox 5. "You just hear people screaming, crying there was blood everywhere. There's people's boots and sneakers on the floor." Two men and two women, all in their 20s, were were taken to Lutheran Medical Center. Three of the victims are in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, but one 29-year-old man is in critical condition, the Post reports. “He hit them like bowling pins," another witness tells the tabloid.
Witnesses say that after hitting the pedestrians and some parked cars, a drunken Amado switched seats with a female passenger, who tried to drive away but ended up crashing into two more parked cars. They then sat in the vehicle until police arrived and arrested them. Amado is charged with vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. His companion, Andrea Jobity, is charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operator of a vehicle.
A custodian at 93 Lounge, whose car was wrecked in the rampage, said the fight inside the club was "crazy." One neighbor tells the Daily News, "People have gone to community board meetings, begging to get the club shut down. There are always fights.” In October, residents said gunshots rang out by the club, and others complain of crowds outside smoking marijuana and crack at all hours. “It’s nothing but fights, broken bottles, and police calls,” neighbor Mary Smith told the Brooklyn Paper. Now we guess she can add Drunken Bowling with Acuras to the list.
