It's been over a month since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the city, and many bars and restaurants in affected areas have remained shuttered. But good news for fans of SoHo's Lucky Strike—after sustaining significant damage during the storm, the popular bistro has finally reopened!
Post-Sandy, the Keith McNally-owned Grand Street spot's basement flooded, shutting it down for weeks. Neighboring eateries fared better, and customers were directed towards Lucky Strike's sister restaurants like Balthazar and Minetta Tavern. But they're back to serving $20 bar steaks and fries—we called and confirmed that they're open today, and will be operating at normal hours from here on out.
Not all affected places have been so lucky, though. Beloved Red Hook institution Sunny's Bar is still struggling to reopen after sustaining significant flooding, and other Red Hook spots like Home / Made and Fort Defiance are trying to fix extensive damage to their establishments. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants and bars in Coney Island, Staten Island, Dumbo, Lower Manhattan and other hard hit areas that need help getting back on their feet: check Eater for a full list of places that are still closed.
