Even if you don't have a way to get to Staten Island today, there are plenty of ways that you can contribute and help out those who have lost homes, power and heat due to Hurricane Sandy. Below, check out a list of food fundraisers happening this week, as well as restaurants who are accepting donations, and other ways you can support relief efforts:
- The Queens Kickshaw is holding an all-day benefit on Thursday, and will be dedicating 100% of their profits to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts (via the Red Cross).
- Telepan will host a dinner on Monday in the restaurant's PDR with all proceeds going to benefit the Mayor's fund for Hurricane Sandy Relief. Call 212-580-4300 to make a reservation.
- Seersucker will host an "Eat Pork, Help New York" dinner to benefit the Red Hook Initiative on Monday.
- If you've donated to the Red Cross, all Chop't locations above 24th Street are offering a free drink or snack.
- Kelly Bensimon, Steve McCarthy and more are planning a fundraiser this Thursday at the new Cocktail Bodega. Funds raised will go directly to Food Bank for NYC.
- Lonestar Tacos more than doubled their goal to send a truck out to give away free tacos—they'll be handing them out in Gerritsen Beach today at 52 Seba Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11229, from 12-3 p.m. They may go out again another day this week as well.
- After Sandy, Shake Shack went and made a special $5.50 milkshake, the "Rally Shake," they says is inspired by a Black & White cookie. From today through Sunday, November 11, they'll donate $2 to the American Red Cross for every Rally Shake sold.
- Eater has compiled a great list of restaurants raising funds for the Red Cross, collecting canned goods and other supplies, and contributing in other ways. Grub Street has a few more benefits that are happening later this week as well.
- The Brooklyn Kitchen is no longer accepting donations, but they have a lot of recommendations of other places that are still accepting clothes, food, and other supplies.
- Most of all, eat out if you can: it's a great way to support restaurants that have been damaged, and even if they haven't been damaged, they've almost certainly lost money and food supplies, and need help getting back on their feet. Just remember to tip well!
