Now that you've picked out your perfect Halloween ensemble for this weekend's festivities, it's time to torment your pets! There are two doggie dress-up contests happening this weekend, starting with the DOG-E-DOG Howl-A-Ween dog costume party and contest in the McCarren Park dog run on Saturday, from noon until 3 p.m. Costumed mutts will compete for human prizes from Lucky Dog and Tommy Guns Salon, among others; there's also a special category for doggie tricks. And even if you don't have a furry friend, swing by to ogle the contestants, buy raffle tickets for some sweet swag or donate a toy or blanket to the BARC Shelter for a pooch in need.

Over in Fort Greene, the 14th Annual Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest wags its way into Fort Greene Park Saturday in conjunction with the Conservancy's annual Halloween Festival. Pups register starting at 11 a.m. and the judging starts at noon with a $5 suggested donation.

Also this weekend:

The East Harlem Harvest Festival unfolds over three days, beginning with the Friday night Gala, where a $25 ticket gets you beer and wine from the Harlem Brewing Company and Manhattan Beer Distributors plus hors d'oeuvres from local restaurants like Kiosk and Agua Fresca. Then on Saturday, more local restaurants and business take over three blocks of Park Avenue to hand out samples and sell small bites from Lloyd's Carrot Cake, new candy shop Coco Le Vu, baked good from Hot Bread Kitchen and lots more. Beer flights, fruit hookah, cooking demos and all kinds of activities are scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. from La Marqueta up to the Urban Garden Center. On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Urban Garden Center will give away 100 free trees courtesy of Bette Midler's NYRP and MillionTreesNYC.

102612newsletter2.jpgLongtime Jim Henson collaborator and Muppeteer Jerry Nelson passed away this summer, and to honor his memory, the Museum of the Moving Image has arranged a special tribute to his life and career at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Nelson—best known for his work as Count von Count on Sesame Street and Kermit's nephew Robin on The Muppet Show, among many, many other characters—will be remembered by his Muppet colleagues, including Bill Barretta, Fran Brill (Prairie Dawn, Zoe) and Dave Goelz (Gonzo, others). The program will also include clips from Nelson's long puppeteering career and some "special surprises," per the museum. The event is free with museum admission and on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you're feeling frisky this weekend—or need something to get you in the mood—head over to Galapagos Art Space for 'No Holds Barred' Bawdy Storytelling on Friday night. Think of it as "The Moth for Pervs": storytellers have 10 minutes to titillate you with an honest sexploit from their past with "no scripts, no nets and no filters." This go-around's storytellers include monologist Mike Daisey, sex educator Ducky Doolittle, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon comedian Seth Herzog, and three others. If that's not enough to get your motor running, Vixen Creations and Aneros will both be giving away free sex toys. Tickets for this sexxxy event run $15 and doors open at 7 p.m.
