Yesterday, we posted a video of a prolonged and ultimately violent struggle between three 7-Eleven employees and an alleged shoplifter in Brooklyn. The 29-year-old suspect, David Golson, allegedly tried to steal a Snickers bar at around 11:15 p.m. from the Flatbush Avenue 7-Eleven, located near the Barclays Center, on Wednesday. Golson was ultimately arrested and charged with robbery, assault, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property.
7-Eleven's corporate office told us yesterday: "7-Eleven, Inc. does not condone action that restrains customers or suspected robbers. As a matter of fact, this precept is part of a formal program we offer franchisees to use in training their employees." As you can hear in the video, Golson claims that the employees bit him at one point; another customer yells, “This is ridicuous — for some Snickers. This guy has no clothes on...will somebody call the police?”
Police said Golson, who had an outstanding warrant for an earlier arrest, was arrested because he attacked the employees first, knocking over shelves before the video began. A 7-Eleven spokesman also told the Post that Golson is suspected of having stolen from that location before. None of the employees were arrested, but they weren't let off the hook: one was fired while two others will be required to retake a 7-Eleven training course. Which is quite convenient, considering that that very location is used to train employees.
