Thirteen years after four policemen fatally shot unarmed West African immigrant Amadou Diallo in the Bronx, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has granted one of the involved officers the right to carry a gun again. Kenneth Boss, now 41, fired five out of the 41 bullets launched against Diallo, 24, when he and his fellow officers supposedly mistook Diallo's wallet for a gun in February 1999.

All four officers were all acquitted of murder charges in a high-profile trial that was moved to Albany, and three of them eventually quit the force; Boss, however, stuck around, despite being stripped of his weapon and relegated to repair work. He spent a decade trying to get his gun back, arguing that since he'd been found not guilty, he should not be penalized for the shooting. Kelly granted Boss the right to carry his weapon again yesterday. "[Boss] is relieved it's all finally over," a source told the Post. "This is what he was fighting for."
