Around 1 a.m. this morning, New Fairfield, CT resident Jeffrey Giuliano received a call from his sister—who lives next to him—about a possible intruder. So he left his home with a gun and came across a masked person, wearing all black, and holding a shiny object. Giuliano confronted the intruder, who apparently lunged at him, so Giuliano fired. And when the intruder's mask was taken off, Giuliano found it was his 15-year-old son Tyler.
According to WCBS 2, "When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a distraught Giuliano, a fifth-grade science teacher, distraught with grief." A neighbor said, "I can’t imagine what he felt when he took the mask off."
Another neighbor, who said Jeffrey Giuliano was his teacher in 2003 and 2004, told the Hartford Courant, "I can't believe something like this would happen in such a small town, to such a great family." Another person Tweeted, "you can only hope nobody ever has to feel the pain and guilt that Mr G feels right now. prayers go out to the family.. RIP Tyler."
The News Times reports that Tyler Giuliano, a 10th grader at New Fairfield High School, "was adopted and previously had the last name of Januzzi." The State Police are investigating the shooting.
