Early last year, the MTA began renovations on the Culver Viaduct, which the F and G trains use as they ascend to the highest subway stop in NYC, at Smith-9th Street in Carroll Gardens. It's been a while, but we are finally approaching the end of the line—the work is on schedule and the MTA plans to reopen the station this year.

Carroll Gardens Patch reports that last week at a Community Board 6, "two officials from Metropolitan Transit Authority said that the station’s rehabilitation project is on schedule for completion this fall... 'We still believe we are on schedule to open Smith-Ninth Street by this fall. I know that means until Dec. 31, but we will open that station by then.'”

The station renovations will include "a new and expanded street level control house, new architectural metal panel escalator enclosure and rehabilitated stairs and platforms. The station will also have new lighting, public address and CCTV systems." Boring. But there will also be a 14-foot-tall mosaic courtesy of the Arts in Transit program! See you at the ribbon cutting...
