The National Weather Service has announced a tornado watch is in effect for NYC, NJ and other parts of the mid-Atlantic region until 7 p.m.: "TORNADOES...HAIL TO 0.5 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS." And it's been barely two weeks since our last tornadoes!
As expected, there's been rain, but now forecasters say it might get worse. WCBS 2's Eric Wilhelm said, "A dynamic storm system is heading our way for this afternoon. Any thunderstorm could bring a damaging wind gust in addition to very heavy rain, so we’re concerned about flooding.”
The NWS explains, "A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS."
