While tropical storm Isaac may be increasing to hurricane strength as it heads toward the Gulf Coast, here in New York we've got a much calmer day of weather. There's a weak high pressure system on the ground and a weak upper level low approaching from the west this morning. That combination may produce a line of showers or a thunderstorm early this afternoon. The increasing cloud cover will keep today's high to the low 80s.
More widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely tomorrow as a cold front approaches the city. This second round of rain is expected to begin overnight and last until early Tuesday afternoon. The sun looks to reappear after the rain, warming the city to the mid 80s.
High pressure is going to settle in following tomorrow's frontal passage giving us some gorgeous weather for the rest of the week and into the Labor Day weekend. Look for clear, dry skies Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the low 80s. Summer heat makes a return visit on Friday and Saturday as the highs should creep up toward 90 degrees. The forecast for the end of the weekend depends on where the moisture from the remnants of Isaac winds up. For now that moisture looks to stay well to the west but it is too early to have confidence in that forecast.
