Mirror Lake Shuffleboard Club in Florida, via Schnapp's Pinterest
This April we dared dream that one day this town would get a legitimate shuffleboard club. To our surprise, our prayers of the retiree sport coming here were immediately answered, when we were told the very next day that a shuffleboard club was in the works in Brooklyn.
The Royal Palms shuffleboard club, we were told by co-founder Jonathan Schnapp, would be "housed in a 1919 Printing Press in the burgeoning Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn... boasting 18 shuffleboard courts (12 full-size, regulation shuffleboard courts downstairs and another 6 courts in the proposed 'Lido Deck' outdoor space upstairs) spread over 32,000 square feet" of indoor and outdoor space. But in order to make this happen, they may need some help.
Neighbors began to worry about a club opening in the area, and a community board meeting is being held this Monday—which they plan to stage a protest at "despite our best efforts to allay their fears. Now Royal Palm need 1,000 people to SIGN THIS PETITION "in favor of granting us our liquor license. We're going to the community board on Monday and want to show them all the wonderful people out there who are excited about shuffling and being a part of the Royal Palms community." Sign it, or there is blood on your biscuit and tangs!
