A 17-year-old Brooklyn teen was fatally shot at a friend's house party when a gunman randomly opened fire at the crowd earlier this week. The shooting occurred around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday morning on St. Marks Avenue in Crown Heights; sources told the News that the gunman came to the party looking for someone who had stolen electronic equipment from him. He yelled at the crowd and then fired six shots, one of which fatally hit Darius Robinson in his right side. "Darius is a focused go-getter," his father, Fred Robinson, told CBS. "He had two jobs and he worked every day. You don’t find too many 17-year-olds that go to school full-time and hold down two jobs."

Robinson said he dropped off Darius, a senior at Bedford Academy High School, at the party earlier that evening: “He said he wanted to say hello to a couple of friends and would be home in an hour. I fell asleep.” After the shooting, the teen was taken to Interfaith Medical Center, where he was declared dead. “My wife woke me up, screaming,” Robinson told the News. “It’s heartbreaking. Words can’t describe the pain that I feel.”

No arrests have been made in the shooting, and Robinson believes his son—who held a maintenance job and also worked at a nearby McDonald’s—was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. “He was a hard worker,” his father said. “How many 17-year-olds you know have two jobs?” At a memorial last night, community activist Tony Herbert urged anyone with information to come forward: "A lot of people walked up to this family and said ‘That was my man.’ So if that was your man, step up and do the right thing,” he said.
