According to the NYPD, an off-duty traffic cop has been arrested for rape. NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agent Charles Taylor, 25, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. last night in Brooklyn, in the 84th Precinct. He has been charged with rape and suspended without pay. We'll update with more information as it becomes available.
There have been several high profile cases of NYPD officers accused of rape in the last few years. Michael Pena was sentenced to 75 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 25-year-old school teacher at gunpoint while off-duty in Manhattan last summer; Officers Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata were found not guilty of rape, but Moreno was sentenced to one year in jail for official misconduct; and a Staten Island cop has been accused of raping his "pregnant stripper ex-girlfriend."
Update: More details about the alleged rape have emerged. According to the News, Taylor, who is assigned to Patrol Boro Brooklyn South, has been accused of drugging the 17-year-old victim, whom he knew, before raping her.
The News' sources said Taylor and the victim met last week, and had been texting and calling for several days. They went on a date Sunday evening, and the woman later told a relative that they had nonconsensual sex. She went to a Brooklyn hospital and told authorities that Taylor slipped a drug in her drink before they had sex. According to the Post, the teen claimed that she met Taylor on Flatbush and Dekalb Avenue in Brooklyn, he drugged her, took her to the Bronx, and then raped her.
