Thunderstorms stayed a few miles north of the city last night but maybe today will be our lucky day! Lots of sunshine early on today might come back to bite us later this afternoon as that unstable air starts churning in response to a couple of upper-level troughs that will be passing overhead. Look for thunderstorms to begin as early as mid-afternoon and last until the evening. Heavy rain, flash flooding, gusty winds, and maybe a bit of hail is possible.
Once the upper-level disturbances depart the skies should clear. Thursday is looking like a perfect summer day with a mix of sun and clouds and a high in the mid or upper 80s. True to the pattern we've seen all summer long, the fair weather will pay only a brief visit. As a slow moving cold front approaches on Friday we can expect a warm day, high in the upper 80s, and increasing humidity. A stray thunderstorm is not out of the question.
The forecast models don't seem to have a good handle on what will come after that. Generally, Saturday and Sunday should be cooler with highs only around 80 degrees. Scattered thunderstorms are possible on Saturday but that's a low confidence forecast.
