A 28-year-veteran of the NYPD, who made headlines last year when he was shot on vacation in Miami during a robbery, is back in the news. But not in a good way—unless you approve of driving (allegedly!) drunk and assaulting a fellow officer.
According to the NYPD, Harold Thomas, 49, was pulled over in his Cadillac Escalade this morning around 12:45 a.m. in Washington Heights while he was off-duty. Once pulled over he got in an argument with the police and Thomas, who has worked with the Joint Terrorism Task Force, was taken into custody.
Thomas has been charged with second-degree assault, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a breathalyzer test. His arresting officer, whose identity has not been revealed, apparently suffered a knee injury in the scuffle.
As we mentioned above, this isn't the first time Thomas made headlines. Last July 27th the veteran cop was critically injured when he was shot in the leg during a gun fight outside the boutique Miami Beach hotel where he was vacationing. After bullet fragments hit a major artery in his leg he was temporarily placed in a medically induced coma.
