The man accused of shooting an off-duty NYPD officer after finding him in his New Jersey home with his estranged wife has been arrested. The Post reports that that 35-year-old Robert Dunbar turned himself in to Monmouth County authorities late last night after he allegedly shot detective Louis Pepe twice in the shoulder with Pepe's own service revolver. The paper says Pepe was in the kitchen with Deborah Dunbar, "his pants and belt on the floor." A source adds, "Robert lunged after [Pepe], trying to fight him—and a three-way struggle ensued. They all fell to the ground. That's when he reached for the officer's .38 caliber and pumped a few rounds after him."
Dunbar faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. Pepe, who lives with his own wife in Staten Island, was treated and released shortly after the shooting. The three children who were in the house at the time of the shooting were taken away by relatives. "When you're out here in Manalapan, you think you're safe from psychos," neighbor Kevin McCann said, "But that's obviously not the case today." It's unclear whether McCann has seen a certain film from 1989 starring Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, and Corey Feldman.
